日本歯科大学発祥の地

大手町交差点にこの碑があります。

中原市五郎は、この地に、明治４０年６月（1907）、公立市立歯科医学校指定規則の我が国最初の歯科医学校として、私立共立歯科医学校を創立した。わが国の歯科医療は黎明期にあり、「学・技両善にして人格高尚なる歯科医師の養成」を建学の目的とした。国民の生命と健康を守るため、歯・顎・口腔の医学を教導し、数多くのすぐれた歯科医師を輩出し、歯科医療の発展と患者の福祉に尽力した。明治４２年に現在の千代田区富士見１丁目に移転し、日本歯科医学専門学校を経て昭和２０年に日本歯科大学に昇格した。日本歯科大学は、私学として「自主独立」という建学の精神を継承し、生命歯学部と新潟生命歯学部の２学部をはじめ、大学院２、附属短期大学２、博物館１を有する世界最大の歯科大学となった。
